Annual Events for LPS Members
There are monthly competitions (see Home Page for categories for current year) and guest speakers every month except July and August. Those two months usually offer a Field Trip and a special outing, often held at a member’s house. These are usually for members only. The LPS Board of Directors meets 5 – 6 times per year.
January – Usually the Competition Category is “Scenic” but check the Home Page for verification. Board members usually meet.
February – Winners from the Year-End Competitions are announced. In even-numbered years, Annual Elections take place for the officers and board members.
March – Usually the Competition Category is “Member’s Choice” but check the Home Page for verification. Copies of the Year-End Program (a DVD or a Flash Drive) are on sale.
April – Preparation for March for Babies, usually held the second weekend in May. Board members usually meet.
May – LPS members volunteer to photograph the Annual March for Babies, usually the second weekend in May.
June – Preparation for volunteering at the KY State Fair. Board members usually meet.
July and August – no regular meetings. Special seminars or outings for members only. LPS members volunteer to receive and screen photograph entries at the KY State Fair, usually the second weekend in August.
September – At the membership meeting, LPS members give suggestions for next year’s competition categories. Board members usually meet after the September membership meeting to decide on a list for categories to be voted on at the October meeting by the membership.
October – Membership votes on competition categories for next year. This can also be done in September. Annual dues are due. All winning prints from the current year, including honorable mentions, are turned in for Year-End competition. (Digitals do not need to be turned in.)
November – Annual dues are due. All winning prints from the current year, including honorable mentions, are turned in for Year-End competition. (Digitals do not need to be turned in.)
December – Photo Books are turned in by members for the Annual Book Competition. The monthly competition is judged by the membership. The program for the meeting is a competition of 3-minute DVD’s prepared by members. Annual dues are due. Last chance for all winning prints from the current year, including honorable mentions, are turned in for Year-End competition. (Digitals do not need to be turned in for the Year-End competition.)
